One evidence workflow across every report
Veritas Shield has shipped a coordinated update across Standard Scan, Deep Scan, Reader, report views, Evidence Atlas, and Compare Mode. Users now receive a more consistent account of which claims were found, what evidence is connected to them, what remains missing, and why the reporting-evidence score changed.
The Veritas Shield extension is also available from the Chrome Web Store. The public listing currently serves version 1.20.6.
One article and one evidence contract
Standard server-side analysis is now stricter about determining whether a page contains one coherent news article. Consent screens, access pages, and multi-topic newsletters are withheld before unrelated material can be combined into Reader, scoring, or Evidence Atlas.
Standard Scan and Deep Scan use the same current claim, evidence, relationship, and scoring rules. Deep Scan can inspect the article already available in Chrome, while Standard Scan works from the server-accessible page. When both methods recover the same article text, Veritas preserves the clearer human-readable paragraph structure instead of treating a weaker browser structure as more complete.
Reader now keeps relevant reporting methods available for inspection while leaving recommendation lists, captions, reporter biographies, media promotions, funding notices, and other page furniture outside the article’s claim set.
A claim counts as supported only when the saved evidence graph contains its supporting relationship. Claims and Evidence Atlas now use that same relationship set, and a claim without an attached evidence passage receives the same explicit gap wherever it appears.
Clearer work inside reports and Evidence Atlas
Evidence Atlas now separates three review tasks more clearly:
- Why it scored focuses on the three most important claims used to explain the result, with one evidence path open at a time.
- Trace a claim includes every complete path connecting a mapped claim to both a source and an evidence passage.
- Find gaps includes every claim with an explicit missing-evidence connection instead of stopping after an initial group.
Expert Map, Chain, Timeline, and List views use the same complete claim graph, so changing the presentation does not hide later claims. Long claim text also remains inside its card without covering the connection summary.
Reader, Summary, Claims, Dimensions, and Full report remain distinct views of the same analysis. Analysis confidence continues to communicate extraction or evidence limitations separately from the reporting-evidence score.
Comparisons remain useful without forced matches
Compare Mode no longer needs to manufacture a relationship between unrelated articles to produce a useful result. When no claims relate, Veritas says so directly, preserves each article’s independent score and dimension results, and lists every claim under the article where it appears.
Comparisons also disclose when the same URL produced different canonical article text or when either retained evidence graph is partial. A claim that exists in only one article is treated as article-specific; it is not automatically mislabeled as an evidence gap.
Why we made these changes
A report is difficult to trust when Reader shows one article boundary, Claims uses another relationship, Atlas omits later claims, or comparison forces two unrelated statements together. This release reduces those contradictions by carrying one bounded article and evidence model through the complete review workflow.
Consistency does not mean hiding uncertainty. Veritas still withholds a grade when an article exceeds the declared complete-graph limits, and it continues to show revision, coverage, extraction, and evidence limitations where they affect interpretation.
Chrome availability and next steps
To analyze a server-accessible article, open the Veritas Shield Analyzer and use Standard Scan. To analyze an article already open in Chrome—including many JavaScript-heavy pages and some pages available through the user’s existing access—install the extension and choose Deep Scan. Deep Scan does not bypass sign-in requirements, access controls, or payment.
Chrome manages approved Store updates automatically. If an installed version can no longer provide the article details required by the current analysis contract, Veritas pauses Deep Scan before analysis and directs the user to the official Store listing. Standard server-side analysis remains available as a separate choice.
Veritas Shield measures visible reporting practice; it does not determine whether every statement is true or replace independent verification and judgment. Users can review the complete release history in the changelog, or contact support@veritas-shield.org for help.
